September is Suicide Prevention Month: Start a Conversation. Be the Difference.
Each September, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) recognizes Suicide Prevention Month as a time to raise awareness, spread hope, and spark meaningful action around one of the most urgent mental health issues of our time.
Suicide touches far too many lives. Whether you’ve struggled personally, supported a loved one, or grieved someone lost, you are not alone. Healing is possible, and help exists.
At Grace Therapy Collective, we believe in the power of communication — that talking openly about mental health can be life-changing. NAMI reminds us: Talking about suicide isn’t harmful — silence is. Just one honest, caring conversation can save a life.
The Power of One Conversation
This month, we encourage you to:
Check in with a friend or family member. Ask how they’re really doing, and be ready to truly listen.
Reach out for support if you’re struggling yourself. Scheduling a counseling session, calling a friend, or even inviting someone to come with you to your first appointment can make all the difference.
Remember that if you have been impacted by suicide — whether through intrusive thoughts, a loved one’s struggle, or personal loss — you matter. Your story matters. And you deserve support.
The Impact of Suicide in the U.S. (NAMI)
1 in 20 U.S. adults (5%) have serious thoughts of suicide each year.
1 person dies by suicide every 11 minutes in the U.S.
79% of people who die by suicide are male, though more women than men attempt suicide.
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among youth ages 10–24 and the 11th leading cause of death overall.
